From the Headmaster’s Desk: Sharing the Vision

By: Jim McKenzie

Last week, I had the opportunity to share our expanded vision for Christian Education with our school community at a series of Vision Gatherings.

The Lord spoke to the prophet Habbakuk and said to do three things with the vision that God had given:

1. Write it down.

2. Make it plain.

3. Run with it.

Last week was about accomplishing the first of the three steps.  We wanted to write the vision and share it in broad terms.  In the weeks and months ahead, we will continue to unpack the vision for students, staff, and parents – to make it plain – so that together, we can all run with this vision that God has given us.

Among the more notable parts of the vision that we shared this week is our pursuit of authorization as an IB World School for grades K-12.  The International Baccalaureate is a highly regarded international programme that we believe checks all the boxes for the kind of education we want to provide our students and that it aligns beautifully with our Christian context and our commitment to the Gospel.

In my 22 years at The Rock School, I have never had a greater clarity and conviction about our vision for Christian Education than I do at this moment.  I am excited about the ways that we will improve in our efforts to make disciples of Jesus that possess the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to courageously cooperate with God in the work of redeeming the world.

And for all of you who re-enrolled for 2021-2022, we look forward to having you join us on this journey.

If you missed the Vision Gathering, or you’re considering future enrollment at The Rock School, you can watch the recording from Thursday night’s session.

Together, We Are The Rock,

Jim McKenzie, Headmaster

The Rock School is a Candidate School* for the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), and the Diploma Programme (DP). This school is pursuing authorization as an IB World School. These are schools that share a common philosophy—a commitment to high quality, challenging, international education that The Rock School believes is important for our students.

*Only schools authorized by the IB Organization can offer any of its four academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), the Diploma Programme, or the Career-related Programme (CP). Candidate status gives no guarantee that authorization will be granted. For further information about the IB and its programmes, visit www.ibo.org
